Upper Academy classes are for dancers 3rd-12th grade. Class level is determined by age and experience level. Students enrolling in classes above level I should have previous dance experience in that style. *Students enrolled in Leaps and Turns or Stretch and Strength must also be enrolled in an additional dance class
Ballet I
Introductory level ballet class. Dancers could have completed our Lower Academy combo classes or are new to ballet.
Ballet II
Ballet class for dancers with previous ballet experience. Must have completed at least one year in Ballet I.
Ballet III
Ballet class for dancers with previous ballet experience. Must have completed Ballet I and Ballet II.
Ballet IV
Intermediate to Advanced level ballet course. Dancers enrolling in this class should have significant Upper level ballet training (at least 4-5 years).
Ballet V
Advanced ballet class. Dancers should have significant ballet training and dance at an advanced level. It is strongly recommended that dancers in this class take ballet twice a week.
Ballet VI
Advanced ballet class. Dancers should have significant ballet training and dance at an advanced level. Dancers in this class are required to take ballet twice a week.
Clogging I
Students must have previous Tap experience
Clogging II
Students must have previous Clogging and Tap experience
Intro to Dance Team Prep
A class focusing on styles and skills needed for high school and collegiate dance teams. Requirements: dancers in this level must have at least two years of jazz training. Must be able to execute a clean double pirouette and center leap.
Dance Team Prep
The class focused on skills and styles needed on a high school or collegiate dance team. Students in Dance Team Prep must have taken Intro to Dance Team Prep (or be a current high schooler with previous jazz experience). Required skills: double pirouette, double coupe turn, calypso, illusion.
Hip Hop I, II, III
Upbeat and age appropriate hip hop classes for dancers 3rd grade and up.
Leaps and Turns - All levels
A technique class focusing on jazz leaps and turns. At least one year of previous jazz training is required for Leaps and Turns. See individual class descriptions on the Parent Portal for proper skill-level placement.
Lyrical I, II, III
Ballet and Jazz fuse to create this expressive class. This is not a jazz/ballet technique class, therefore dancers are strongly encouraged to take Jazz or Ballet with Lyrical.
Modern I
Beginning level class exploring movement, foundation and technique of Modern dance.
Modern II
Class exploring Modern techniques. Dancers must have previous Modern experience or significant ballet training.
Modern III, IV
Modern class for advanced level dancers with previous Modern training.
Musical Theatre Dance I, II
Broadway style jazz/dance class. Technique, choreography from musicals and performance expression will be explored.
Stretch and Strength Express
Dancers enrolled in Stretch and Strength must be enrolled in an additional dance class. Class for intermediate and advanced jazz dancers to hone in on their technique and gain strength and flexibility.
Tap/Jazz I, II, III
Tap and Jazz class for Upper Academy students.
Please contact us if you have questions regarding which level is best for your dancer. If a student is enrolled in the improper level, ODA staff reserves the right to move the dancer to the correct level.
